If you are between 16 and 75, have a contract of employment of 3 months or more and work for one of the employers who take part in the LGPS then you will automatically be put into the Pension scheme when you start employment.
If you have a contract of less than 3 months then you can apply to join.
In October 2012 the Government introduced regulations which mean that your employer has to automatically enrol you into a pension scheme if certain criteria are met. Your employer can give you details of how this will apply to you.
Police, fire-fighters and teachers are not allowed to join to the LGPS.
To check that you have been entered into the scheme please check that your payslip shows pension contributions being deducted.
