As a previous member of the Local Government Pension Scheme you will have built up benefits within the scheme and these are held until they become payable
You can take your benefits at any age from 55 onwards but reductions may be applied to your benefits.
Your LGPS pension is taxable, but your lump sum is paid tax free. Whether you pay tax when you retire depends on the amount of your pension and your personal circumstances.
It may be possible for you to transfer the benefits that you have built up in the scheme to another occupational pension scheme - you will need to check with the administrators of the new scheme whether they will accept a transfer in.
If you die before your deferred benefit has been brought into payment then a death grant of 5 times the deferred pension is payable.
